Barry Kirkwood Joins Zavala Civitas as Southeast Asia Director

Zavala Civitas Executive Search & Organizational Consulting is pleased to announce the appointment of Barry Kirkwood as its new Southeast Asia Director, with immediate effect. Barry brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the Asian market, making him an invaluable asset to the Zavala Civitas team. 

With over 15 years’ professional experience across education, public, non-profit and commercial sectors, he has become deeply involved in different corporate landscapes in Asia within the last ten years. This includes his engagement in recruitment, admissions marketing, project management sales event management business partnerships and multinational team leadership. 

Specifically while still at Shanghai’s Gemini Personnel as General Manager, leading a team of 40 people in five offices across the city and driving company performance that culminated into best financial year over almost ten years were some of his achievements as far as recruitment sector is concerned. Some other key roles he played are being chairman for HR committee British Chamber of Commerce which is placed at Shanghai; head of British Chamber at Guangdong province. 

During his career hiatus he took in Ho Chi Minh City where he focused on learning about the business environment, developing career coaching clients, language learning and networking. 

Fernando Zavala expressed excitement towards Barry’s appointment saying “Barry’s deep understanding of the Asian market coupled with his extensive HR and executive search experience enables him to lead our initiatives in China. We are excited about having him aboard; we anticipate great things from him.” 

On assuming office Kirkwood said “Joining Zavala Civitas as China Director offers me an exciting chance to utilize my insights gained during a decade spent in this country. I am excited by the opportunity to contribute to their growth and success within this vibrant market.” 

Barry Kirkwood holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics with Sociology from Loughborough University is and ICF Certified Coach. His diverse educational background, coupled with his hands-on experience and industry accolades, solidify his position as a trusted leader in the executive search and organizational consulting landscape.
